All things considered, 2021 wasn’t half bad. And as the year wraps up, we wanted to take the time to look back at some of the moments that made it a pretty good year after all. And with a new year on the horizon, we can’t wait to see what this team — from our athletes to our designers — get up to.

LOVESHACKFANCY X HURLEY

If the lineup had more flowers in it than usual this summer, that’s because we launched our first collaboration with New York City based fashion label, LoveShackFancy, in June. Known for their flowery designs and romantic silhouettes, the limited edition capsule collection featured an exclusive floral print that showed up on everything from surfboards to Phantom boardshorts. Good news for floral fans, look out for more LoveShackFancy x Hurley in 2022.

HURLEY X ’47 MLB®

We love a good collaboration and this one definitely knocked it out of the park, so to speak. With the Hurley x ’47 MLB® collection, which features official Yankees™️, Cubs™️, Dodgers™️, and Red Sox™️ merch, you can rock your team from game day to beach days. Grab the peanuts because an even bigger Hurley x ’47 MLB® collection is coming right in time for the 2022 MLB® season.

CARISSA MOORE AND HER EPIC 2021

No stranger to podiums, Carissa Moore took winning to whole new levels this year. In July, she made history by winning an Olympic gold medal in the first ever Olympic Games to host surfing as a sport. Cue the goosebumps. But if that wasn’t enough, she rounded out her summer by claiming her 5th WSL World Title. No biggie (just kidding — it’s a huge biggie). From Japan to San Clemente, Carissa’s performances this year beg the question: is there anything this Hawaiian powerhouse can’t do? We think (definitely) not.

WORLD NO. 2 FILIPE TOLEDO

The waves were pumping at California’s most fabled a-frame for the final showdown for the Men’s WSL World Title. It was there that Filipe Toledo laid an impressive stake in the sand at his adopted home break of Lower Trestle, coming in runner-up in the event and cementing his WSL world no. 2 status for the competitive year. We can’t wait to see what Filipe does with this momentum going into a fresh new year.

KAI GOES XXL

Big wave surfer and all around waterman, Kai Lenny, took home two major — XXL if you will — 2021 WSL Big Wave Awards. Snagging Ws for both Best Big Wave Paddle and Best Overall Performance only cements Kai’s reputation as one of the best in big waves; and if you saw what he did at Nazaré, Mavericks, and Pe’ahi, you’d agree. Relive it all here.

HELLO, NEW JERSEY

This summer, we opened our first store on the east coast, in the town of Asbury Park, NJ.  We received a warm welcome (and threw a party) when we cut the ribbon in late June and the fun hasn’t stopped since. We look forward to more good times in 2022 as we lay down roots in a coastal town rich in surf, skate, music, and art history — some things we’ve been known to enjoy from time to time.

BACK IN THE GAME

We like to keep things high-flying around here, which is something we kept in mind as we expanded our team of athletes outside of surf this year. That’s why, in 2021, we inked deals with professional skateboarder Elliot Sloan and professional snowboarders Zak Hale, Brandon Davis, and Sean Fitzsimons — all known for going big in their respective arenas. In surf, we signed with San Clemente powerhouse Taj Lindblad — with some as-of-now-still-top-secret contracts coming down the pipeline soon.
